Temirbaev, Gabdurafikh
Who, Why and How exiled: Gabdurafikh Temirbaev has reportedly been in Kazakhstan since 1999 when he fled persecution for his religious beliefs in Uzbekistan (Amnesty International, 2006).
Stage 2 details (arrest/ detention/ extradition): Temirbaev was detained by officers from the Kazakhstan Committee for National Security (KNS) on 24 June 2006 at the house of an acquaintance in Almaty, following an extradition request from Uzbekistani authorities. Temirbaev was allegedly being sought for membership of banned religious groups ( Amnesty International, 2006).
Legal status (refugee/ asylum seeker/ resident): According to the UNHCR he and his family were immediately flown out of Kazakstan for permanent resettlement in a European country ( Amnesty International, 2006).
Current status: He is currently in exile in a European country (Amnesty International, 2006)

Legal sources: Gabdurafikh Temirbaev had been recognized as a refugee by the UNHCR in June after a thorough status determination procedure. This procedure included a confirmation from Kazakstani authorities that no criminal charges or cases had been filed against him ( Amnesty International, 2006).
